The Cork Backpackers Club is one of the main hill-walking clubs in the Cork area, with a membership of over 200. The Club organises a day hike every two weeks, on the Sunday. There are four levels of walks; from the Introductory Walk (for those who would like to try out the sport) to the Long Walk (for the fit and agile), the emphasis being on participation and enjoyment.
The main focus of the Club is hill-walking, although various members are also involved in rock-climbing and cycling, throughout the entire year. There are even a few who will brave the elements to do Winter and Summer camps!
On Friday nights there is a walk either around Cork City (on the darker winter evenings) and further afield when the clocks go forward and the evenings turn brighter.
We meet at 8.30 p.m. and the walk can be anything from a 5 km to 10 km walk depending on how the group are faring. Members are informed of the starting point by e-mail each week.
