The Club always welcomes new members; so here are the answers to some of the more common questions asked by new members.
Membership costs €50 per year, which runs from September to the following September. This fee includes membership of the Mountaineering Ireland (who provide a group insurance scheme, which the Club avails of).
The club organises a full day outing on Sundays every second week throughout the entire year. There are several walks of different grades each Sunday, from "Introductory" (which is for those who would like to try out the sport) to a "Long Walk" (for those who are very fit), with other in-between grades for varying levels of fitness and ability.
To take part in a walk one must register for the particular walk in Counihan's bar (Pembroke Street) on the preceding Wednesday night around 9 pm.
On most of the major Bank Holiday weekends the club organises a "weekend away" to such places as The Beara Peninsula (Cork), Dingle (Kerry), Wicklow, Galway, and Clare. We usually travel on a Friday and return on the Monday, staying in a hostel.
For details on what to bring on the Sunday, go to the gear section by pressing on the "Gear" button above.
When you arrive on Sunday morning, please report to your Walk Leader. People who have not registered in Counihan's pub on the preceding Wednesday night may not be permitted to join the walks at this stage.
Please inform your Walk Leader if you have any Medical condition or injury which may affect you during a walk. e.g. asthma, diabetes, sore leg etc.
Car sharing is the normal means of transport. Each passenger sharing a car is asked to contribute €10 to the driver as a contribution towards petrol. There are usually plenty of volunteer drivers. Be prepared for a late evening return!
If you are driving please obtain detailed directions from the Walk Leader!
